As someone who responds to Police calls everyday in Baltimore City and SWAT response, I am thoroughly pleased with this unit. A lot of people have been dissing digital night vision as of late, however, this unit is a game changer. This unit is even better than the NVG-30s that have been hailed to be the best digital night vision out there at the moment. These compare perfectly to Analog Gen 2 PVS-14s. These have no latency, a great refresh rate, and are crystal clear to look through. I’ve been using them on a nightly basis and they hold up very well.
For those who are looking for a reliable digital night vision unit, from what I have gathered, these are the best out there at the moment.
Best digital night vision I have purchased. Great upgrade from the nvg10. Looked a little blurry at first but after taking the time to focus everything it’s a crystal clear picture.

I’ve spent some time using the DNV-31S, and overall I’m very impressed with it. The housing feels tough and durable, and the unit feels well built rather than cheap or fragile.
Where the DNV-31S really impressed me is its performance when there’s ambient light available. Whether you have moonlight, streetlights, building lights, or other surrounding light sources, the unit does an amazing job and produces a clear image without needing IR.
The main limitation is extremely dark environments with little to no usable ambient light. In those conditions, you’re going to need an IR illuminator. Once you turn the IR on, though, the image becomes very crisp and clear. That’s simply something to understand about digital night vision and how I use this unit.
Overall, I think the DNV-31S is a great digital night vision system. It performs extremely well when ambient light is available, IR gives it excellent clarity when things get really dark, and the housing feels durable enough for real use. I’d personally give it an 8/10.
